US Open: Monday Morning (Evening) Observations
Today’s Monday finish of the 109th US Open was tremendous. It was a true mental and physical test, though not always of golf. I couldn’t imagine playing until 8, waking up early, warming up, and teeing up again at 7:30 AM. I’m glad that the weather cooperated and that the course finally played tough. That wind was great, and the length of the course, made longer by the wet conditions.
- Tiger had it, couldn’t make putts. I’m not sure that Johnny Miller was right when he said Tiger couldn’t adjust. I would believe that his putting was just a bit off. At the end of the day, he lost the tournament on the last 4 holes of the first round.
- Phil was the fan favorite. He, like Duval, left himself some par putts that you don’t want on the 4th round of a US Open. Anything that breaks more than a cup is not something that is consistently made on 13-Stimp greens.
- Man, Duval looks like the old Duval. The one that shot 59.
- Kudos to Glover. Seems like a nice guy. My friend Tom likes that a guys who plays with no gloves won in the rain.

It looks like Bethpage State Park will be ready for golf again starting the week after July 4th. Amazing considering the crazy weather during the open.
