Golf is a game of a lifetime.  Why start out on the wrong foot?  Take lessons.  Buying a $400 state of the art square driver will not get you the fundamentals and confidence that you need to play well.  Think about this…when Tiger Woods hits a shot, are people saying to themselves, “What a nice club!  If I had that club, I could do the same thing!”, or are they saying “What a great swing!”.  Take the lessons.  It will save you from getting into bad habits and also provide a wonderful foundation for you to build up your game.  I started self taught.  It took 3 years of lessons and practice to undo years of bad technique.  That is purgatory, and you don’t want that.
