Well, the next round, which was the semi-final round or Final 4, was even more interesting than the great escape of round 1.  My partner, Tom, actually got a full night of sleep, so already I figured we’d be better off than the previous round.  I was worried about this upcoming match because the 2 guys were playing were 19s on the course, meaning that they got strokes on every par 3.  If you’ve even played someone who got a stroke on a par 3, you know that the odds …

Not too tasteless…funny.  Apologies in advance to Mr. Woods and Mr. Wonder.
***
Stevie Wonder and Tiger Woods are in a bar. Tiger turns to Stevie and says, ‘How’s the singing career going?’
Stevie replies, ‘Not too bad. How’s the golf?’

Woods replies, ‘Not too bad, I’ve had some problems with my swing, but I think I’ve got that right, now.’
Stevie says, ‘I always find that when my swing goes wrong, I need to stop playing for a while and not think about it. Then, the next time I play, it seems to be …

Well, my partner, Tom, and I competed in our club’s Member:Member tournament.  This was a team competition, best ball, with full handicaps as of the beginning of July handicaps.  It is in a single elimination bracket format, seeded by team aggregate course handicaps.
What a stressful tournament.  After working all night and not sleeping, Tom was ready to go on the first day.  We managed to play ourselves to dormi down, with 3 holes left.  Strategically, probably not the best place to be.  I felt I was playing well, but had …

Dealing with the wife / husband, On the Course »

The new BMW Z4 is for real.  My wife had attended the 2009 Northeast Bimmerfest @ Paul Miller BMW.  She is a BMW enthusiast with an award winning 2001 BMW 330ci.  I can barely drive manual.  Her car is one of her passions, and I support her in this.  It’s important in a relationship to understand what are must haves to the other person, and make sure that those things are supported.  Hundreds of great cars from hundreds of enthusiasts.  The great thing was that the showroom was open, and …

Golf Tournament: Bethpage Black Practice Round impressions

My wife and I walked Bethpage yesterday for a practice round.  It was the 7th time I’ve walked it, first time for her.  Her comment was, “how can you walk up these hills with golf clubs?”.  It was long.  With all the rain today, it will be longer.  It’s looking great.  What is wonderful is that the cource looks like that normally.  My buddy Ray was certain that this wasn’t golf.  My take is, it is golf, and I’m glad I’m not playing it.  Of course, if the club championship …

Playing Golf: Considerations to balance Life with Golf Life

Golf is a great escape. You play to get away from the other things in your life, such as work, children, bills, etc, hopefully with great company and the stress of a 3 foot putt for $1.  It is a wonderful therapy.  However, it takes a long time (4+ hours on a private course, up to 6 hours on a public course, not including post round meal / drinks and commute time).  If you are married, as I am, this may cause some separation anxiety for you and your wife.  …

Dealing with your boss, Golf Etiquette, On the Course »

[8 Jun 2009 | No Comment | ]

I think it’s strange when I hear that my colleagues or clients are nervous playing golf with the “boss”.  I guess that would be case if you were a completely new golfer.  Many of these folks will ask me what they should do.  While there is no clear cut list of things to do, here are some guidelines that I generally share:
1. Do not admit to more than you are.  If you have a USGA handicap, share that.  Do not say “I’m about a 9 or 10″, if you are …

Getting started, On the Course »

Golf is a game of a lifetime.  Why start out on the wrong foot?  Take lessons.  Buying a $400 state of the art square driver will not get you the fundamentals and confidence that you need to play well.  Think about this…when Tiger Woods hits a shot, are people saying to themselves, “What a nice club!  If I had that club, I could do the same thing!”, or are they saying “What a great swing!”.  Take the lessons.  It will save you from getting into bad habits and also provide …
