The Solheim Cup was a great success…amazing energy, 2 evenly matched teams, and all full of people that truly appreciated the opportunity to play in such a prestigious event.
- Christie Kerr has an amazing putting stroke. If Sergio or Vijay had that stroke, both would have more tournaments and majors. Guaranteed.
- You can think what you want about Christina Kim, but that is a person whom I’d want on my team. She was fiery, respectful, and fully engaged.
- I like Paula Creamer. She can lead the LPGA for the next …

Y. E. Yang won the PGA, doing what no other professional golfer has ever done in taking the lead from Tiger. Amazing accomplishment to hit those shots in that situation. His English may not be great, but you better believe that he was well aware of the situation, time, and place. It turns out that he was a weightlifter in his younger days, same as KJ Choi. I wonder if that aspiration is common in Korea. More importantly, it amazing to think about the mental strength of a weightlifter who …

Well, the next round, which was the semi-final round or Final 4, was even more interesting than the great escape of round 1. My partner, Tom, actually got a full night of sleep, so already I figured we’d be better off than the previous round. I was worried about this upcoming match because the 2 guys were playing were 19s on the course, meaning that they got strokes on every par 3. If you’ve even played someone who got a stroke on a par 3, you know that the odds …

Well, my partner, Tom, and I competed in our club’s Member:Member tournament. This was a team competition, best ball, with full handicaps as of the beginning of July handicaps. It is in a single elimination bracket format, seeded by team aggregate course handicaps.
What a stressful tournament. After working all night and not sleeping, Tom was ready to go on the first day. We managed to play ourselves to dormi down, with 3 holes left. Strategically, probably not the best place to be. I felt I was playing well, but had …

Well, the storybook ending of Tom Watson winning at 59 years of age did not come to be. I wish it did. It did not, and we should focus on what happened, as with any golf tournament. For Cink, he made birdies on the back 9 on a major championship Sunday, including 18 to eventually force the playoff. He played the 4 playoff holes in 2 under par. Guy does that, regardless of what his name is, he is a great champion. If the other guy was, say, Lee Westwood, …

There is tremendous curiosity and, potentially, pressure on young Cheyenne Woods. This freshman at Wake Forest is the niece of the current best golfer in the world (and maybe best golfer ever). It must be nice to play at those family get togethers, but to have everyone know who you are because of Tiger must be tough. She has a great attitude, letting things come to her and being patient with her development. I understand that Tiger has looked at her swing. It’s great that she looks at it like …

Today’s Monday finish of the 109th US Open was tremendous. It was a true mental and physical test, though not always of golf. I couldn’t imagine playing until 8, waking up early, warming up, and teeing up again at 7:30 AM. I’m glad that the weather cooperated and that the course finally played tough. That wind was great, and the length of the course, made longer by the wet conditions.
- Tiger had it, couldn’t make putts. I’m not sure that Johnny Miller was right when he said Tiger couldn’t adjust. …

My wife and I walked Bethpage yesterday for a practice round. It was the 7th time I’ve walked it, first time for her. Her comment was, “how can you walk up these hills with golf clubs?”. It was long. With all the rain today, it will be longer. It’s looking great. What is wonderful is that the cource looks like that normally. My buddy Ray was certain that this wasn’t golf. My take is, it is golf, and I’m glad I’m not playing it. Of course, if the club championship …

A promotion by PF Changs, which is one of Briny’s sponsors. I wonder how I would do in this case? I wonder what I’d hit if I thinned it. I’d probably hit a pedestrian on the street.

I saw that ESPN paparazzi’d Tiger Woods today. Seriously, who else but TMZ and Extra follows a guy across the country to a golf course parking lot?
That aside, the golf scene will soon shift to Bethpage State Park, specifically the Bethpage Black course. This is the course with the warning sign on the first tee. This is also the course that NY State residents can play for $50, out of state for $100, and, if you insist on riding a cart, you cannot play at all. This is a true …
