It’s been several months since I last posted.  I recently started a new job, and I remember now how work can get in the way of golf and life.  Still, I wanted to make sure that the saga of the Partner-Partner was shared, as it was quite a day.
We luckily made it to the finals, going extra holes against a 20 handicapper with a crazy hot putter.  The finals were against Zone and Coach, who are 2 great guys, and 2 pressure putters.  I figured we had nothing to lose, …

The Solheim Cup was a great success…amazing energy, 2 evenly matched teams, and all full of people that truly appreciated the opportunity to play in such a prestigious event.
- Christie Kerr has an amazing putting stroke.  If Sergio or Vijay had that stroke, both would have more tournaments and majors.  Guaranteed.
- You can think what you want about Christina Kim, but that is a person whom I’d want on my team.  She was fiery, respectful, and fully engaged.
- I like Paula Creamer.  She can lead the LPGA for the next …

Not too tasteless…funny.  Apologies in advance to Mr. Woods and Mr. Wonder.
***

Stevie Wonder and Tiger Woods are in a bar. Tiger turns to Stevie and says, ‘How’s the singing career going?’
Stevie replies, ‘Not too bad. How’s the golf?’
Woods replies, ‘Not too bad, I’ve had some problems with my swing, but I think I’ve got that right, now.’
Stevie says, ‘I always find that when my swing goes wrong, I need to stop playing for a while and not think about it. Then, the next time I play, it seems to be …

Golf Tournaments: British Open Thoughts

Well, the storybook ending of Tom Watson winning at 59 years of age did not come to be.  I wish it did.  It did not, and we should focus on what happened, as with any golf tournament.  For Cink, he made birdies on the back 9 on a major championship Sunday, including 18 to eventually force the playoff.  He played the 4 playoff holes in 2 under par.  Guy does that, regardless of what his name is, he is a great champion.  If the other guy was, say, Lee Westwood, …

Tempo, rhythm, sequencing.  Whatever you call it, it is the most important thing in playing good golf.  I recently had an annual tournament at my club, where my friend Tom and I were defending champions.  The tournament format is great; it’s 2 days, and each 9 is played in a different format.  First day is Best Ball and Alternate Shot, second day is Scramble and Aggregate.  Tom and I were in good shape after the first day, but I could feel tension in my swing.  During the scramble, we were …

Today’s Monday finish of the 109th US Open was tremendous.  It was a true mental and physical test, though not always of golf.  I couldn’t imagine playing until 8, waking up early, warming up, and teeing up again at 7:30 AM.  I’m glad that the weather cooperated and that the course finally played tough.  That wind was great, and the length of the course, made longer by the wet conditions.
- Tiger had it, couldn’t make putts.  I’m not sure that Johnny Miller was right when he said Tiger couldn’t adjust.  …

Golf Tournament: Bethpage Black Practice Round impressions

My wife and I walked Bethpage yesterday for a practice round.  It was the 7th time I’ve walked it, first time for her.  Her comment was, “how can you walk up these hills with golf clubs?”.  It was long.  With all the rain today, it will be longer.  It’s looking great.  What is wonderful is that the cource looks like that normally.  My buddy Ray was certain that this wasn’t golf.  My take is, it is golf, and I’m glad I’m not playing it.  Of course, if the club championship …

Playing Golf: Considerations to balance Life with Golf Life

Golf is a great escape. You play to get away from the other things in your life, such as work, children, bills, etc, hopefully with great company and the stress of a 3 foot putt for $1.  It is a wonderful therapy.  However, it takes a long time (4+ hours on a private course, up to 6 hours on a public course, not including post round meal / drinks and commute time).  If you are married, as I am, this may cause some separation anxiety for you and your wife.  …

Golf Course: Bethpage Black online

Fun online simulation of Bethpage Black.  I went double, double, double, then quit.  I played it better in real life.  Though, I wasn’t tired when I finished.

Golf Course Review: Bethpage Black - what a monster!

I saw that ESPN paparazzi’d Tiger Woods today. Seriously, who else but TMZ and Extra follows a guy across the country to a golf course parking lot?
That aside, the golf scene will soon shift to Bethpage State Park, specifically the Bethpage Black course. This is the course with the warning sign on the first tee. This is also the course that NY State residents can play for $50, out of state for $100, and, if you insist on riding a cart, you cannot play at all. This is a true …
